Jackson Swan

Research Scientist

I am a marine ecologist who specializes in monitoring animal behavior using active acoustics. My main interests lie in environments where light is highly limited, such as turbid waters or the deep sea, and understanding the movements and behaviors of the organisms that call such places home. Thus far, my research has taken me to the bottom of submarine trenches, the North Sea, the Gulf of Alaska, and to tropical rivers. Currently, my main project involves installing solar powered autonomous echosounders on fishing platforms on the Tonle-Sap River in Cambodia. The purpose of this research is to establish a method of fisheries independent monitoring to aid in management decisions.
